Well, training has definitely picked up recently which may explain why I haven’t posted any updates lately.
This week, the Lenten season started. My wife decided to give up pizza and sweets. Not really that hard to give up pizza since I am training for IM but she does enjoy her sweets. As for what I’m giving up…well, I know that I’d like to give up running right about now but don’t think that’s an option. Disclaimer…my use of the word “running” is all relative. My run is a jog which equals a fast walk for most triathletes.
Coach Karen had me scheduled for 85 miles tomorrow with a 3 mile brick run. Since my son’s first baseball game is tomorrow, I decided to do the workout today instead. Luckily I received a text from a teammate who has the same situation so also wanted to ride today so we were set to meet at 9:30.
For those familiar with the great state of Texas and our weather conditions, you can all relate. If you don’t like the weather at the moment, just wait a few hours and it will change. Well, today was no exception. Yesterday was a Chamber of Commerce day or a “10” as my friends like to put it and well today was cloudy, windy and 15 degrees warmer than yesterday morning but the ride must go on. Needless to say it made my longest bike ride to date feel even longer with 20 mph wind gusts and rain. I only got in 80 of the 85 but the positive…I’m feeling better on the new bike. I was able to stay in aero longer today (the wind gusts may have played a role in that too).
Now excuse me while I get up from the desk, humpbacked and limping to bed.
Good night.
